Meteorological summer begins today, June 1. Soon, Rhode Island's South County beaches will be thronged with surfers first and then, as the water warms up, bathers. Astronomical summer won't begin for another three weeks, but by that time temperatures will be well on their way to mid-summer highs. [2006]
