Angangueo,Michoacán, Mexico

The high-Gothic Church of the Immaculate Conception looms large over the small town of Angangueo. Where did the wealth come from to built it? From the gold, silver, and copper mines that went into production in the late 1700s. Now the mines are history, and the monarch butterflies don't pull in nearly as much treasure. [2008]
