Madrid, Spain

Madrid's Metropolis, originally an insurance company, dates from the early 20th century. If you are looking for a fine example of the Beaux-Arts style, look no farther. It uses both architecture and location to command attention, and its prominence is accentuated by a "flatiron" position at the triangular intersection of Gran Via and Alcalá. [2009]
