Jekyll Island, Georgia, USA

It's along the shore, but it's not driftwood. These lanky, sun-bleached limbs and trunks are the remains of an in situ forest that flourished behind the sand dunes. With rising sea level, however, the dune line has moved landward, and the forest has succumbed to both salt and the forces of the open ocean.[2007]
