Miramare was finished in 1860, but its royal inhabitants (of the Hapsburg clan) lived here only a few years before they became Emperor and Empress of Mexico. They really shouldn’t have accepted that promotion! Today, the castle is only a short bus ride from Trieste, Italy. [2008]
